Learn-to-Swim

Learn to Swim is for adults who aren’t quite ready for regular club practices, or who want a supportive setting to build confidence and improve technique.
Across Learn‑to‑Swim classes, swimmers may work on:
  • Comfort and confidence in the water
  • Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly fundamentals
  • Technique, efficiency, and body position
  • Using the pace clock
  • Aerobic pacing and endurance
  • Flip turns and pool etiquette
Sessions are adapted to participants’ abilities and goals.

All Learn‑to‑Swim registrations include:
  • Access to the members’ section of our website
  • Club news and updates
  • A Rideau Speedeaus swim cap at the start of the session

Beginner
Build comfort in the water and develop the basic fitness and technique needed to progress into Stroke Improvement.
Prerequisites:
  • Ability to float comfortably on the front or back
  • Comfort keeping the head submerged underwater

Stroke Improvement
Improve technique and build the fitness needed to participate in regular coached club practices.
Prerequisite:
  • Ability to swim one continuous 25‑metre length of the pool (any stroke) without stopping

Additional Days
Muscle memory matters in swimming. This optional add-on class helps swimmers reinforce skills learned in Learn to Swim while building cardiovascular fitness. This option can be added during registration.
